Miss USA® Anniversary Pageant to be Held in Gary

Gary, Indiana will host the 50th Anniversary telecast of the MISS USA® Pageant, to be broadcast live in February, 2001 on the CBS Television Network, it was announced by the Miss Universe Organization.

Maureen J. Reidy, President of the Miss Universe Organization and Gary Mayor Scott King, have signed the official “Hosting Agreement” which stated that the 2001 MISS USA Pageant would mark the first of three annual pageants to be held in Gary.

“This grand event is the perfect vehicle for us to showcase Gary, as well as northwest Indiana, on a national and international level,” said Mayor King. “Hosting the MISS USA Pageant for the next three years, beginning with the very special 50th Anniversary, will enable the world to see what Gary has to offer.”

In addition to the television exposure during the two-hour telecast, thousands of people and media from around the nation will visit the city of Gary during the four-week pageant period. This primetime, major network event, consistently ranked among the most watched television programming in the country. While in Gary, the delegates will also participate in fundraising events to benefit breast and ovarian cancer research, the official causes of the MISS USA Pageant.

“Gary is an amazing city that is growing exponentially and will benefit greatly from our event,” said Maureen J. Reidy, president of the Miss Universe Organization. “We are thrilled to have Gary as our backdrop as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary.”
