Mayor Norm Coleman Receives National Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service

Saint Paul Mayor Norm Coleman received the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service at a gala ceremony June 24th at the Radisson Hotel Saint Paul. The Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service is designed to recognize those outstanding political leaders who best exemplify President Woodrow Wilson's commitment to maintaining and expanding an intellectual foundation as the basis of public service.
Elected in 1993, Mayor Coleman has created countless new jobs, held firm on the zero percent increase in the property tax levy, and strengthened the private sector investment in downtown and the neighborhoods which has furthered the City's revitalization, and has renewed hope and confidence in the community, according to a City Hall press release.
The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars was established by Congress in 1968 within the Smithsonian Institution as an intellectual organization for the world's eminent scholars, government policymakers and private sector executives to discuss vital current issues in a nonpartisan setting. The Honorable Lee H. Hamilton, Director of the Center, hosted the event along with John Dasburg, CEO of Northwest Airlines.
Previous winners of this award include former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, former Secretary of State George Shultz, Governor Pete Wilson of California and Governor George Pataki of New York.
