Purpose
To provide forums at which mayors can exchange information and ideas on their communities' needs and problems with experts from the public and private sectors.

History
The Mayors Leadership Institute program was first established in 1974. Since that time, hundreds of mayors have participated in its programs and activities.

Activities and Deliverable Products
The major activities of the MLI program are the Mayors Leadership Institutes. Every two years, the Conference sponsors with Harvard University a special Mayors Leadership Institute for newly elected mayors from major metropolitan areas.

In addition to MLIs, the program also makes available to new mayors, The Mayor's Role handbook, which covers a wide range of urban subjects and leadership building techniques.

Cities Benefiting from the Program
MLIs are open to all mayors from cities above 30,000 in population and to all service member cities.

Accomplishments
MLI's provide a networking system for mayors and an opportunity for mayors to find solutions to their own communities' problems.
