1. Briefly describe the structure of your program.
Officers work with teenagers in the scouting program teaching them about police work, and helping them to become more involved in community and civic activities. The scouts are allowed to ride with officers and observe. They can attend training meetings as well as assist with the Citizens Police Academy Classes. They also go through training exercises with the Citizens Police Academy.
2. When was the program created and why?
The program began in 1985-86. Out of all the scouts that have participated since 1985 there has only been one to be removed from the program. The purpose of the program is again to work with young people and give them direction. Many of the scouts have gone on to complete college after completing the scouting program.
3. How is the program financed?
The only cost is a very few hours of on-duty time. Most of the time is donated by the officers and local businesses donate support items needed.
