EIDs use information technology to integrate the traditional elements of supply and demand and transmission and distribution with new technologies such as efficient equipment, energy storage, and customer load management, and distributed generation. EID businesses can leverage technologies and newly created market efficiencies to optimize the existing grid system, minimize the need for new infrastructure, lower costs and operate in a more secure and environmentally friendly way.
