Conference Forms Mayors and Film Commissioners Task Force to Address Economic, Cultural Impact of Film Production on Cities

Las Vegas, NV -- Meeting with film commissioners from more than a dozen U.S. Cities, as well as representatives from the film industry, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Conference Executive Director J. Thomas Cochran set the stage for the inaugural meeting of the newly-created Mayors and City Film Commissioners Task Force. That meeting will take place during the Conference of Mayors' 68th Annual Meeting in Seattle this June.

Issues that will be discussed at the Task Force meeting include 'run-away' film productions (productions shot outside the United States to avoid labor and other costs), and cities' 'best practices' in film production. Members of the commission will include Mayors, city film commisioners, and senior representatives from the film industry.

The United States Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are about 1,100 such cities in the United States. Each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor.
