Statement of Mayor Marc H. Morial
President The United States Conference of Mayors

"We are stunned by today's tragic and cowardly acts of terrorism. Mayors across the country have moved quickly to increase security and ensure the safety of people in our cities. We urge all Americans to remain calm.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. We applaud the selfless heroism of the numerous rescue workers and volunteers across the country. And we urge people to help by donating blood, as the Red Cross has urgently requested.

"We are united as Americans. Now we must close ranks as a nation behind our President and our leaders, as we say with one strong voice: 'We will punish those responsible for today's terrorism, whatever it takes, and we will not be intimidated.'"
