Conference President to Stand with Clinton and Congress to Call for Support of Urban Parks, Passage of CARA Legislation

Washington, DC -- H. Brent Coles, Mayor of Boise and President of The United States Conference of Mayors, will stand with President Clinton in the Rose Garden tomorrow at 10:00am EST, as the President makes a statement in support of legislation known as the Conservation and Reinvestment Act, or CARA. CARA would provide permanent annual funding of $450 million for the state and local assistance program of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and $125 million for the Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Program (UPARR).

After the President's statement, Mayor Coles will be available to give interviews to members of the White House Press Corps.

Mayor Coles will also attend a Capitol Hill rally in support of the CARA legislation and urban parks in general, sponsored by Americans for Our Heritage and Recreation. The rally will take place on the East Side of the Capitol Building, at 11:00am EST.
