HEALTH CARE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
WHEREAS, access to high quality health care is essential for the healthy development and well-being of America's children; and
WHEREAS, the states across the nation have made great progress in reducing the percentage of uninsured children through the state/federal partnership that was made possible through the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP); and
WHEREAS, SCHIP was recently strengthened through the positive reauthorization of SCHIP by the President with strong bi-partisan support in Congress; and
WHEREAS, our country's Mayor's know first hand the importance of access to primary care for children and families in their cities because children need to be healthy in order to do well in school and reach their full potential; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the members of the US Conference of Mayors hereby join together to celebrate the progress we have made as a nation through the recent reauthorization of SCHIP which will extend health insurance coverage to 4 million more children and ensure that children have access to health insurance coverage and primary health care, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members of the U.S. Conference of Mayors dedicate themselves to continue the effort to make sure that all children have health insurance coverage.
