Resolution #1: National Anthem Project (which was a joint referral with the Education Committee) urges mayors to participate in the National Anthem Project, which encourages citizens to learn the word to the National Anthem, by issuing proclamations in support of the project, urging citizens to participate in the project, applauding the efforts of music teachers to teach our musical heritage, and to hold community events to re'teach the National Anthem.
Resolution #2: Enhancing Skills Attainment through the Arts (which was a joint referral with the Education Committee) urges states and local school systems to encourage the use of the arts as a means to engage students in all subjects, and urges the federal, state and local governments to support and provide opportunities and resources for arts education programs.
Resolution #3: The Land and Water Conservation Fund And The Urban Park And Recreation Recovery Program (UPARR) urges Congress to restore funding to the Land and Water Conservation Fund's stateside program at no less than the $100 million; and that Congress fund the UPARR at no less than $30 million.
Resolution #4: Commendations to Albuquerque for Its 300th Birthday calls for the mayors to commend Albuquerque on the occasion of its tri-centennial celebration.
Resolution #5: National Hockey League Labor Dispute calls upon the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association to resolve their disputes now, so that cities will not suffer similar lost revenues next year as the result of an NHL season that is shortened, changed, played with replacement players, or not played at all.
Resolution #6: The National Moment of Remembrance urges mayors to proclaim Memorial Day, May 29, 2006 as a day for all to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance and designate 3 p.m., as a time to pause and unite in remembrance.
Resolution #7: National Arts and Humanities Month urges mayors to build partnerships with their local arts agencies and other members of the arts and humanities community in their cities to proclaim, to participate in, and to celebrate the month of October as National Arts and Humanities Month.
Resolution #8: Federal Funding For the Arts, Humanities And Museums reaffirms its support of the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Office of Museum Services within the Institute of Museum and Library Services and calls upon Congress to increase funding for these agencies in the FY-06 appropriations bills. It also urges Congress to allocate new funds for the NEA American Masterpieces national initiative instead of cutting the Challenge America arts grant program to pay for this new project.
Resolution #9: Senate Cultural Caucus affirms the need for establishing a Senate Cultural Caucus and urges the nation's mayors to urge their U.S. Senators to join the new Senate Cultural Caucus.
Resolution #10: Public Awareness Campaign for Arts Education urges the nation's local arts agencies to actively participate in the Art. Ask for More. public awareness campaign at the local level, and also to motivate parents and other citizens to take action on children's behalf to ensure the return of a comprehensive arts education in schools.
Resolution #11: 30th Anniversary of Arts and Artifacts Indemnity Act urges mayors to honor and recognize the 30th anniversary of the Arts and Artifacts Indemnity Act which has allowed thousands of U.S. museums around the country to borrow works of art and artifacts from museums overseas for the educational benefit and enrichment of Americans in communities nationwide.
Resolution #12: 45th Anniversary of Americans for the Arts recognizes and congratulates Americans for the Arts for its accomplishments and services to the field and urges mayors and their local arts agencies to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Americans for the Arts.
Resolution #13: 40th Anniversary of The National Endowment for the Arts and The National Endowment for the Humanities reaffirms its support for the National Endowment for the Arts (including its Challenge America program), National Endowment for the Humanities and joins in celebrating their 40th anniversary.
Resolution #14: Drug Free Sports Project (which was a joint referral with the Children, Health and Human Services Committee) encourages states to establish steroid testing programs in schools; and that Congress pass legislation which require minimum testing requirements for steroids and other performance-enhancing substances for major league sports associations engaged in interstate commerce.
Resolution #15: Promoting Physical Fitness Activities in Cities As A Means To Improving Health And Limiting Obesity Amongst City Residents Throughout The United States (which was a joint referral with the Children, Health and Human Services Committee) calls for the support of local and national efforts to counter growing obesity rates and the myriad problems associated with being overweight, in children, youth and adult residents; and urges individuals, voluntary, community and faith-based organization, professional societies, private and public corporations and others to work with government at all levels to promote regular physical activity, fitness and sports activities in which all our citizens can participate.
