The Mayor’s Workforce Development Council (WDC) and the Mayors Standing Committee on Jobs, Education and the Workforce have played major roles in developing Conference policy as it relates to working families, jobs, education and workforce issues. The WDC and the Mayors Standing Committee on Jobs, Education and the Workforce continue to combine with the efforts of the Mayors Task Force on Poverty, Work and Opportunity to develop policy priorities promoting the Annie Casey Foundation’s Family Economic Success agenda.
There were a total of seven poverty policy resolutions officially adopted by The U.S. Conference of Mayors at the 78th Annual Conference of Mayors in Oklahoma City, OK. These include:
· Support of Financial Planning Clinics for Retirement
Preparedness & Financial Literacy
· Support for U.N. Millenium Development Goals through Local
Observances
· U.S. Conference of Mayors Priorities for Reauthorization of
the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
· Designating September as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
