Partnership Invests in Promising Programs to Encourage Kids’ Healthy Weight & Lifestyle WASHINGTON, DC — Today The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) announced the winners of the 2018 Childhood Obesity Prevention Awards during the

The partnership has three core components

1. GRANTS. Over the course of this six-year partnership, USCM, ABA and ABFHA will award more than $2.6 million to more than 35 cities across the country

2. PUBLIC AWARENESS. In addition to the awards program, the partnership includes a signifi cant public awareness component. For example, at USCM’s 2016 Winter Meeting, USCM recruited 65 Mayors from cities across the country to record radio public service announcements (PSAs), in both English and Spanish, on how parents and others can help reverse the trend of childhood obesity. As part of this effort, USCM and ABA also created an extensive array of resources, such as sample op-eds and social media content, that mayors and others can use to raise awareness of childhood obesity in their communities.

3. BEST PRACTICES. The third component of the partnership is connecting mayors with innovative, cost-effective program strategies to successfully reduce childhood obesity in their cities. These best practices highlight the innovative, sustainable and/or adaptable aspects of the Childhood Obesity Prevention Award-winning programs, and also provide insights into the history and development of each initiative
